beatify
Canonization's first step
Beatify is to declare someone blessed, specifically in the Roman Catholic Church as a step toward sainthood.
A pope beatifies a deceased person after verifying miracles attributed to them: Mother Teresa was beatified in 2003.
More loosely, to beatify is to make blissfully happy or to regard with reverence: The documentary beatifies its subject.
