banana blossom
Tropical plant bloom
A banana blossom is the large, tear-shaped flower that emerges from the end of a banana bunch.
Also called banana flower or banana heart, it has purple outer petals enclosing pale inner layers.
Common in Southeast Asian and South Asian cuisines, it's used in salads, curries, and stir-fries, with a mild, slightly bitter flavor and artichoke-like texture: The banana blossom salad was dressed with lime and fish sauce.
