Phnom Penh
Mekong River metropolis
Phnom Penh is the capital and largest city of Cambodia, located where the Mekong and Tonlé Sap rivers meet.
Once called the "Pearl of Asia" for its French colonial architecture, the city was emptied by the Khmer Rouge in 1975 and has since rebuilt into a major Southeast Asian hub: We spent a week in Phnom Penh visiting the royal palace and the Tuol Sleng museum.
