palm heart
Edible tree center
Palm heart is the edible inner core of certain palm trees, harvested from the growing tip.
The texture is tender and slightly crunchy, the flavor mild and faintly vegetal.
Palm hearts appear in salads and as a standalone vegetable, often canned or jarred: a salad of palm hearts and artichokes.
Also called heart of palm.
