arterial line

Continuous BP monitor

An arterial line is a thin catheter inserted into an artery, typically in the wrist, to continuously monitor blood pressure and allow frequent blood sampling.

Unlike standard blood pressure cuffs, it provides real-time readings beat by beat.

Arterial lines are used in intensive care and during major surgeries when precise hemodynamic monitoring is critical: The anesthesiologist placed an arterial line before the cardiac bypass.
