arm twisting
Applying heavy pressure
Arm twisting is aggressive persuasion or pressure tactics to get someone to agree to something.
The image is of bending someone's arm painfully until they comply.
Unlike outright coercion, arm twisting usually involves persistent urging, emotional appeals, or leveraging relationships rather than threats: It took some arm twisting, but she finally agreed to come.
