antiprohibition

Against banning alcohol

Antiprohibition describes opposition to laws banning the manufacture, sale, or consumption of alcohol—particularly the Eighteenth Amendment to the U.S.

Constitution (1920–1933).

The antiprohibition movement argued that banning alcohol created more problems than it solved: organized crime, unsafe bootleg liquor, and widespread disregard for the law.

Antiprohibition sentiment grew throughout the 1920s.
