Eighteenth Amendment
Constitutional liquor prohibition
The Eighteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibited the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcoholic beverages, ushering in Prohibition in 1920.
It was the only constitutional amendment later repealed, undone by the Twenty-first Amendment in 1933 after widespread noncompliance and the rise of organized crime made the experiment untenable.
