anti-Stalinist

Opposing Soviet dictatorship

Anti-Stalinist describes opposition to Joseph Stalin or Stalinism—the Soviet dictator's policies of totalitarian control, purges, and cult of personality.

The term applies to critics from both left and right: Trotskyists were anti-Stalinist from within communist ranks, while Western conservatives opposed Stalin on ideological grounds.

The anti-Stalinist left rejected both capitalism and Soviet authoritarianism.
