post-mortem
After death analysis
Post-mortem means after death.
A post-mortem examination is an autopsy—a medical examination of a corpse to determine cause of death.
The term extends to any analysis conducted after something has ended: We held a post-mortem on the failed campaign.
In this figurative sense, it examines what went wrong and why.
Also spelled postmortem.
