An androgyne is a person whose gender identity or presentation combines masculine and feminine elements, or falls outside that binary entirely.
The term emphasizes identity rather than biology—someone who experiences themselves as neither fully man nor fully woman, or as both: As an androgyne, they found the "M or F" checkbox absurd.
Less clinical than androgynous, which describes appearance.
