androgens
Masculinizing steroid hormones
Androgens are hormones that promote male characteristics.
Testosterone is the most prominent androgen, responsible for development of male reproductive organs, facial hair, deeper voice, and muscle mass.
Though often called "male hormones," androgens occur in both sexes—women produce them in smaller amounts.
The athlete tested positive for synthetic androgens.
