alligator snapping turtle
Luring aquatic reptile
A large freshwater turtle native to the southeastern United States, distinguished by its powerful hooked beak, ridged shell, and a worm-shaped lure on its tongue used to attract prey.
It can weigh over 200 pounds and is among the largest freshwater turtles in the world.
Despite the name, it's a distinct species from the common snapping turtle, though both have aggressive temperaments when threatened.
