acrostic poems

Initial letters spell

Acrostic poems are verses in which certain letters—typically the first letter of each line—spell out a word, name, or message when read vertically.

The form dates to ancient times and remains popular for wordplay and dedications: She wrote an acrostic poem spelling out her mother's name.

Double acrostics use both first and last letters.
