Highest possible grade
A1 is an informal way of writing "A-one," meaning first-rate or excellent: The service was a1.
The expression comes from Lloyd's Register classification system, where A1 denoted ships in top condition.
Now mostly seen in casual digital communication. (Capitalized A1 is more standard.)
