Union forces
Blue-clad soldiers
Union forces refers to the military of the United States during the American Civil War (1861–1865), fighting to preserve the Union against the secessionist Confederacy.
The term distinguishes the Northern army and navy from Confederate forces: Union forces captured Atlanta in September 1864.
Also called Federal forces or simply the Union.
