Treaty of Karlowitz
Habsburg-Ottoman peace accord
The Treaty of Karlowitz was a 1699 agreement ending the Great Turkish War between the Ottoman Empire and a European alliance including Austria, Poland, Venice, and Russia.
It marked a turning point in Ottoman decline, forcing the empire to cede large territories in Hungary, Transylvania, and the Balkans.
The treaty established Habsburg Austria as the dominant power in Central Europe.
