Common cat name
A tabby is a cat with a distinctive coat pattern—usually stripes, spots, or swirled markings, often with an M-shaped marking on the forehead.
The term describes the coat pattern rather than a breed: a gray tabby, an orange tabby cat.
Tabby can also refer to a female cat generally, or disparagingly to a gossipy old woman.
