agouti

Rabbit-sized rainforest dweller

An agouti is a large rodent native to Central and South America, resembling a long-legged guinea pig.

Agoutis are important seed dispersers in tropical forests.

The term also describes a coat pattern in animals where individual hairs have alternating bands of light and dark color, producing a grizzled appearance common in wild rabbits and certain dog breeds.
