Stubbs
Stubbs is an English surname, originally meaning "one who lives near tree stumps." The name is most associated with George Stubbs (1724–1806), the English painter renowned for his anatomically precise paintings of horses.
The museum acquired a Stubbs for its collection.
A Stubbs has become shorthand for any painting by him.
