Mbabane's landlocked kingdom
Swaziland is the former name of Eswatini, a small landlocked kingdom in southern Africa bordered by South Africa and Mozambique.
The country officially changed its name in 2018, with King Mswati III announcing the switch to reflect the nation's precolonial identity and distinguish it from Switzerland, with which it was often confused.
The name Swaziland, meaning "land of the Swazis," remains in common informal use.
My grandmother still calls it Swaziland out of habit.
