Sopwith Camel
British fighter aircraft
A British single-seat fighter biplane flown during World War I, known for its exceptional maneuverability and twin synchronized machine guns.
The Camel was credited with shooting down more enemy aircraft than any other Allied fighter of the war, though its responsiveness made it notoriously difficult to fly.
The name came from the humped fairing over its guns.
Snoopy of *Peanuts* fame imagines flying one in his fantasies as a World War I flying ace.
