clericalism
Priests controlling politics
Clericalism is the influence of clergy or religious institutions in secular affairs, or the policies that support such influence.
The term usually carries disapproval, implying that religious authority has overstepped its proper bounds: The reformers fought against clericalism in government.
It can also describe excessive deference to clergy within religious communities themselves.
