Palestinian refugees
Stateless Middle Eastern diaspora
Palestinian refugees are people displaced from their homes in the territory that became Israel, beginning with the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, along with their descendants.
The term encompasses those who fled or were expelled during the conflict and subsequent wars, many of whom have lived for generations in refugee camps in Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.
Their status and potential right of return remain among the most contentious issues in Middle East peace negotiations.
