OTT

Bypassing cable entirely

OTT stands for "over the top"—excessive, exaggerated, or flamboyant beyond what the situation calls for.

The phrase originated in World War I for soldiers going over the trench wall into battle, but now describes anything extravagant or theatrical: The decorations were a bit OTT.

In media contexts, OTT refers to streaming services delivered "over the top" of traditional cable infrastructure.
