Nebula

Genre fiction honor

A nebula is a vast cloud of gas and dust in space, often visible as a hazy patch of light among the stars.

Some nebulae are stellar nurseries where new stars form; others are remnants of dying stars that have expelled their outer layers.

The word comes from Latin for "mist" or "cloud," which also gives us nebulous—vague or ill-defined.

Plural: nebulae or nebulas.
