Marco Polo sheep

Central Asian wild

Marco Polo sheep are a subspecies of argali—wild sheep native to the high mountains of Central Asia, particularly the Pamir range.

They are named for the medieval Venetian explorer who described them.

The rams are prized by trophy hunters for their spectacular spiraling horns, which can exceed five feet in length.
