Wakhan Corridor
Afghanistan's eastern finger
The Wakhan Corridor is a narrow strip of territory in northeastern Afghanistan, extending about 200 miles between Tajikistan to the north and Pakistan to the south, reaching China at its eastern tip.
Created in the late 19th century as a buffer zone between the British and Russian empires, it remains one of the most remote and inaccessible regions in the world.
