Lloyds
Thames-side risk market
Lloyd's is the London insurance market where individual underwriters and syndicates gather to insure risks.
Originally a coffeehouse where ship owners and merchants arranged marine insurance, Lloyd's now handles everything from cargo to celebrity body parts.
Lloyd's of London is the formal name, though the apostrophe often disappears in casual use: The policy was underwritten at Lloyds.
