L'Anse aux Meadows
Norse North American
L'Anse aux Meadows is an archaeological site at the northern tip of Newfoundland, Canada, containing the remains of a Norse settlement dating to around 1000 CE.
It provides the only confirmed evidence of Viking presence in North America before Columbus, proving the sagas' accounts of voyages to "Vinland" were based in fact: The discovery at L'Anse aux Meadows changed our understanding of pre-Columbian contact.
