Norse explorers

Medieval Atlantic voyagers

Norse explorers were Scandinavian seafarers of the medieval period who ventured across the North Atlantic and beyond.

They established settlements in Iceland, Greenland, and briefly North America around 1000 CE—centuries before Columbus.

The term often appears in discussions of Viking-age expansion: Norse explorers reached Newfoundland long before other Europeans.
