Viking helmets
Scandinavian warrior caps
Viking helmets are the headgear worn by Norse warriors during the Viking Age.
Despite their popular image, actual Viking helmets were simple iron or leather caps—the iconic horned helmets are a 19th-century romantic invention with no archaeological support.
The phrase now often refers to the mythical horned version: football fans wearing Viking helmets in the stands.
