Jeanne d'Arc
Jeanne d'Arc is the French name for Joan of Arc, the fifteenth-century peasant girl who led French armies against English occupation, claiming divine visions guided her.
She was captured, tried for heresy, and burned at the stake at nineteen.
Later canonized as a saint, she remains a powerful symbol of French nationalism and female courage.
The French form appears in English when emphasizing her cultural significance: the Jeanne d'Arc myth, a Jeanne d'Arc figure.
