India pale ales

Bitter craft brews

India pale ales are a style of beer characterized by strong hop bitterness, higher alcohol content, and pale golden color.

Originally brewed in England with extra hops to survive the voyage to colonial India, the style was revived by American craft brewers in the late twentieth century.

Often abbreviated IPA: The taproom had six IPAs on draft.
