genocide denial
Rejecting mass murder
Genocide denial is the refusal to acknowledge that a documented genocide occurred, or the minimization of its scale and severity.
Deniers may dispute death tolls, claim victims were combatants rather than civilians, or argue the killings weren't systematic.
Holocaust denial and Armenian genocide denial are the most prominent examples.
In some countries, genocide denial is illegal.
