shuttle diplomacy
Envoy-mediated peacemaking
Shuttle diplomacy is negotiation conducted by a mediator who travels back and forth between parties who won't or can't meet directly.
The term emerged from Henry Kissinger's flights between Middle Eastern capitals in the 1970s.
The shuttle is the intermediary's repeated journeys: The secretary of state engaged in shuttle diplomacy to broker a ceasefire.
