Great Khan
Supreme steppe ruler
Great Khan is a title meaning supreme ruler, used for the paramount leader of the Mongol Empire.
Genghis Khan was the first Great Khan, unifying the Mongol tribes in the early 13th century.
The title distinguished the empire-wide ruler from lesser khans who governed regions or tribes: The Great Khan summoned his generals to Karakorum.
