Gojira

Atomic breath lizard

Gojira is the original Japanese name for Godzilla, the giant monster from the 1954 film and its many sequels.

The name combines the Japanese words for gorilla and whale.

English speakers encounter Gojira when discussing the original Japanese films rather than their American adaptations, or as the name of the French heavy metal band: I prefer the uncut Gojira to the dubbed American version.
