Italy's cycling classic

Giro is a European banking system for transferring money directly between accounts, or a payment made through such a system.

In British English, giro often refers specifically to a government welfare check or benefit payment: He's living on the giro, My giro hasn't come through yet.

The word comes from Italian for "circulation."
