GUID

Software identity code

A GUID (globally unique identifier) is a 128-bit number used in computing to identify resources—database records, software components, network addresses.

The format ensures each identifier is virtually certain to be unique across all systems worldwide, eliminating conflicts when data from different sources merge: Each user account is assigned a GUID.

Also called UUID (universally unique identifier).
