F-111

Variable-geometry military aircraft

The F-111 was a supersonic American military aircraft developed in the 1960s, serving primarily as a tactical bomber and strike aircraft.

It pioneered variable-sweep wings—allowing the wings to pivot from extended to swept-back positions for different flight conditions.

The F-111 saw combat in Vietnam and later conflicts before retirement in the 1990s: The F-111s conducted night raids on Libyan targets.
