Duke of Windsor
Love before throne
The Duke of Windsor was the title given to Edward VIII after his 1936 abdication from the British throne.
He gave up the crown to marry Wallis Simpson, an American divorcée.
The title now serves as shorthand for sacrificing position or duty for love: He pulled a Duke of Windsor and quit the firm to follow her to Paris.
