The Invisible Man
Unseen literary figure
The Invisible Man is H.G.
Wells's 1897 science fiction novel about a scientist who discovers how to make himself invisible, then descends into madness and terror.
The title has become shorthand for anyone overlooked or ignored by society—a meaning explored in Ralph Ellison's 1952 novel Invisible Man, about a Black man's experience of social erasure in America.
He felt like the invisible man in that meeting.
