USS Arizona Memorial
Sunken battleship shrine
The USS Arizona Memorial is a monument in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, built over the sunken remains of the battleship USS Arizona, which was destroyed during Japan's attack on December 7, 1941.
The ship remains the final resting place for most of its 1,177 crewmen who died that day.
The memorial, completed in 1962, spans the submerged hull without touching it and serves as both a tomb and a symbol of American entry into World War II: We visited the USS Arizona Memorial on our trip to Honolulu.
