Dan Quayle

Dan Quayle served as the forty-fourth Vice President of the United States under George H.W.

Bush (1989–1993).

He became a symbol of political gaffe-making after misspelling "potato" at a school spelling bee and making other verbal stumbles that attracted media mockery.

His name sometimes invokes the idea of an underqualified or inarticulate politician.
