Confederate general
Southern military leader
A Confederate general was a military officer holding general rank in the army of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War (1861–1865).
The term now appears mainly in historical contexts: Robert E. Lee was the most famous Confederate general.
Confederate generals are sometimes invoked in debates over monuments and the memorialization of the defeated slaveholding South.
