Chippewa

Upper Midwest nation

Chippewa is an alternative name for the Ojibwe people, one of the largest Indigenous nations in North America, with communities across the northern United States and southern Canada around the Great Lakes region.

The term Chippewa is more commonly used in the United States, particularly in official contexts like treaty names and reservation designations, while Ojibwe or Anishinaabe is generally preferred by the people themselves.

The Chippewa ceded millions of acres in nineteenth-century treaties.
