ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI, released in late 2022.
Users interact with it through typed conversation, asking questions or giving instructions.
The system generates human-like text responses on virtually any topic—writing essays, explaining concepts, drafting emails, debugging code.
ChatGPT sparked widespread public interest in AI and became shorthand for the technology itself: I asked ChatGPT to help with my resume.
The name combines "chat" with GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer), the underlying technology.
