water tunnels
Subterranean liquid passages
Water tunnels are underground passages built to transport water, typically for municipal supply, hydroelectric power, or irrigation.
Large cities depend on networks of water tunnels to move fresh water from reservoirs to treatment plants and distribution points: The tunnel carries water from upstate reservoirs to the city.
In engineering, a water tunnel is also a testing facility where water flows past models to study hydrodynamics—the aquatic equivalent of a wind tunnel.
