Campanile
Freestanding bell tower
A campanile is a bell tower, especially one that stands apart from a church rather than being attached to it.
The term comes from Italian and typically refers to the tall, freestanding towers common in Italian architecture: The campanile in the piazza dominated the skyline.
Some university buildings bear the name.
